It’s Real Bread Week next week!

We’ve been getting wonderful bread daily from Cooper’s Bakehouse ever since we first opened our doors 7 years ago.

Based in Brockley, Francis and his team bake for us fresh every morning and deliver to us by bike. All his staff are paid the London Living Wage.

All their bread is organic and include no additives. Just flour, water, salt and either fresh yeast or sourdough starter.

Factory-made ‘sourdough’ loaves found in major supermarkets can contain as many as 15 ingredients, including palm oil, sugar and commercial yeast. We believe bread should be made locally, baked fresh and sold the same day and not include any weird ingredients or additives that you wouldn’t use if you were baking it yourself.

In addition to celebrating local bakers the Campaign for Real Bread is working to establish a legal definition for sourdough and improve labelling to include additives (most of which don’t need to be included on ingredient labels at present).
