It’s St Patrick’s Day this week, which is a great excuse to order in some wonderful Irish cheeses from Neal’s Yard.
We’ve had Gubbeen in our shops since we opened, a firm favourite with staff and customers and a fixture on our Christmas cheeseboards. We love getting it regularly and enjoying the seasonal variations, from earthy and tangy to rich and meaty.
However my absolute favourite is Coolea. Dutch couple Dick and Helene Willems moved to County Cork in the 70s and started making their version of Gouda. It’s rich and buttery with nutty, caramel notes. It’s won award after award, including Supreme Champion at The British Cheese Awards as well as best Mature Gouda at the World Cheese Awards (beating all of its Dutch competitors!)
